Description

Ronald Nyanhongo is a Sculptor based in the U.K.from the multigenerational Nyanhongo family of Sculptors in Zimbabwe. I worked under the excellence of my brother Master Sculptor Gedion Nyanhongo as an apprentice. I first began to sculpt after learning at a young age by assisting in the duties of chiselling, filling, sandpapering and polishing for his father and sold his first Sculpture at the age of 12. Working with Springtone, Opal stone and Green Nyanga Serpentine is my favourite medium. They allow me to manoeuvre and bring the best out of the natural shape and form of the stone. I visualise and speak with the stone telling me what it has to offer, preferring to leave the natural state of the stone. This is a way to show my creativity and skills to share the stories that prevail from nature. In the last few years I have primarily worked on commissions, consignment and offered workshops, teaching sessions and educational tutorials about stone sculpting. I also work as a registered psychiatric practitioner, where my artistic abilities have contributed to the well being of others.
