We visited our 2nd favorite City Berlin to explore the visual art, performances, sculptures and installations from the three major art fairs (ABC, Positions and Berliner) during Berlin Art Week.

Travel from the London to Berlin was straight forward, arriving via Berlin Schonefield Airport. Tegal airport is closer to the city centre. We stayed at the affordable Hotel Berlin, Berlin, which has an excellent gym and sauna facility and close train links (U-Bahn Gleisdreieck – U1, U2) to the ABC Fair, which was  our first point of call. The train system is easy to navigate in Berlin and are frequent and reliable.

Art Berlin Contemporary ABC Berlin was held at station-Berlin under the direction of Maike Cruse with works presented by 111 galleries and featured 40 performances over the 4 day event. Enjoy some of our favorite works  from the event in the slideshow below. ABC organisation is also the host of the Gallery Weekend taking place in May 1 -3 2015

Positions:Next on our voyage was Positions, a new art fair presented by Kristian Jarmuschek and his team, in the central part of Berlin at Kaufhaus Jandorf in Berlin-Mitte – nearest station Rosenthaler Platz. Our favorites from this fair were these sculptures.

Discoveries along the way: On departing Positions, heading north of Brunnenstraße, we discovered a number of Art Deco shops, visual art galleries and Avant garde fashion shops.

Our greatest find, was the EL Reinventor workshop of an artist, whose passion for music and the need to use his hands and creative mind(he studied international finance), recycles musical instruments and bicycle parts into lamps, kitchen sinks in chairs, fish knives into bangles and many other objects into functional use. Here are a few of the art works in his collection. The workshop on Brunnenstr 26 is worth a visit.

Berliner Liste: The final event of our 48 hours in Berlin was visiting Berliner Liste at Postbahnhof on the last day of the show. The curator was art critic Dr Peter Funken. Berliner Liste focuses on emerging art and galleries who offer art at affordable prices.

This was our favorite of the shows visited. We discovered the works of a British artist living in Hamburg Loz Verney, who combines old painting techniques with urban depiction using oil paint. We love his work and purchased one of his paintings to add to our collection pictured below.

The show had a dedicated floor to photography and we enjoyed the innovative combination of an acrobatic performance and visual art. We also got to experience the smallest art gallery in a porta cabin toilet. Enjoy the slide show and pictures below. The next BERLINER LISTE 2015 will take place from September 17– 20 2015.
