Manzi Jackson was born in Burundi, but moved to Kigali in his infancy. As a child, his parents keep him out of mischief by providing him with art supplies, so they were not surprised when he chose the path of becoming a professional artist.
Jackson is a self-taught artist and has been painting for as long as he can remember. He started with drawings and now creates paintings and practices digital art.
One of his famous digital art pieces includes the portrait of Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o. The popularity of Jackson’s talent was boosted, when the Oscar winning actress shared a video of the highly impressive and painstaking process Jackson used to create a lifelike digital painting of her.
He is drawn to improving his talent by focusing on hyper realism. His main subjects in his works are women, as he believes there are different dimensions to the female form and the roles they play in society. He is inspired by the works of Michel Angelo and Henrik Uldalen hyper realism.
The piece in the picture with Jackson, which is currently exhibited in the JonaQuestArt Collection was inspired by a street vendor he came across on three different occasions in the village. A single mum who had to raise her kids by herself with a lot of financial hardship, but yet she puts on a gracious smile every day, when selling her produce harvested from her little garden. Her pain and hardship is hidden behind her smile.
Jackson lives and works in Kigali, Rwanda and has participated in number exhibitions in Rwanda.
