Description

Oladoja is a self taught prolific illustrator from the southern part of Nigeria. Oladoja developed his practice by trying different media, and he currently focuses on illustration.  He weaves intricate pen & watercolour tapestries on delicate paper using repeat patterns. Some drawings are overlaid with colour interspersed with sections of monochromatic black and white.

Oladoja’s artwork draws inspiration from market scenes, festivals and cultural tradition from Yorubaland and Nigeria.

What is unique about Oladoja’s illustrations is that on closer inspection the skin of his human figures are made up of tiny creatures, symbolising a closeness to nature. His stark negative space sections left black and white only serve to further highlight the contrasting colourful panels of activity.

Oladoja is in his 30s and lives and works between Ile-Ife and Abuja, Nigeria.
