Cristina Cantilena has lived in Tuscany and she studied painting at Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. She focused her studies on the re-use of waste materials for the creation of paintings, artworks and objects.
Her artistic expression has been mostly experimental, with an emphasis on integration of waste materials, but never excluding the more traditional techniques, and always looking forward an aesthetic balance between colour and shape.
Focusing on the waste of the consumerist society, Cristina’s works attempt to give back the value to those items and materials that have lost it and hence became waste. Every object acquire a narrative appearance, coming from it’s own history.
The waste, the unnecessary, becomes a communication medium.
